The Role
I enjoyed learning more about the respiratory devices, working on a large scale project and the friendly team I worked with. It was an experience I will always remember as GSK is the first place I wanted to work for my placement year.
Although new, I was involved with a large project early on and questions were directed towards me which made me feel part of the whole process and valued.
Although supervisors are frequently busy, they made time for me and any queries I had. It showed that they cared in the same way they do for the rest of the employees
It fluctuates, you have periods of meetings IP duties, report issuing and periods where it dies down and at most you have some IP duties and University Work.
A fair amount however I asked for guidance so I received it.
This will help with my analytical chemistry, drug interactions. It also helps to get to know the business, how to become professional, to acquaint and use knowledge and to learn and grow as a person.
The Company
Friendly, chatty, funny bunch. Nobody is a workaholic however people have their up and down moments like anyone else. The vibe is easy and great to get along with everyone. I love working with the people I work with and I enjoy everything I do. They are helpful with questions and treat you like their colleague, not just a student. Everyone always keeps focused, they may be fun but everyone has their own deadlines and work in similar ways so it is easy to use GSK practise.
Initially, not so much. I wasn't booked on an induction and the way my manager reacted with not knowing what to do with me showed this doesn't frequently happen. I was lucky enough to have the old student there who began showing me the ropes and introducing me to new systems. Work was dripping in, the placement was slightly boring with no one to help to interact with the team which can be daunting at the beginning however the organisation increased through time when work was set out for students/pre-reg's. I began to enjoy myself and found the days zoomed by,
The vibe I got is that the company is more than happy to assist with personal training and development however each individual should take it upon themselves to organise the relevant training. General good practise and mandatory foundation courses are organised by the relevant people for the teams which is also very helpful.

Very appealing however I would have liked to have longer in the company after I had finally settled in to show my abilities as I don't believe I have done everything to the full extent I would have liked to. As much as I'd like to, I don't think I will get a job here again.
The Culture
Very good, however I didn't go out a lot with them because I drove to and from london and they would go out clubbing and drinking which means I wouldn't be able to get back home. I had my own circle of friends in which we did smaller things which was great.
The cost is high however I stayed at home so it worked out perfectly.
There wasn't any in Ware however there is some a train ride away which works out expensive with taxis on the way back etc.
Yes, my team and IP students organised many separate events. There were also many GMS and GSK events which we could all go too which was great.
