The Role
Very enthusiastic and motivating people, with a lot to learn from.
I was not treated as a resource, but an actual member of the team, with valued ideas and suggestions.
Provided with a line manager, mentor and buddy to help with any questions in and outside of the job. With specific tasks/projects tailored to your desires of development.
The baseline of work was a very good level of keeping you busy but not too stressed. But would be weeks/months were you very busy and work late. However, that is when you learn the most.
A lot, it was all dependent on how you performed with previous projects. If you did well, they would give you more projects with more involvement and leading.
Invaluable, the things you learn on a job will out weigh anything you learn from a book studying. Key soft skills from your Placement year will stay with you and enable you to develop.
The Company
Incredibly friendly and helpful. Discussions would always occur through questions being asked and no question was seen as a stupid question.
Initially it was fairly poor due to being the first IP in the area I was joining. But picked up very quickly and was set milestones and meetings to discuss the future.
Development opportunities were great. From visiting other sites to get a greater understanding of the business, involvement in projects across other areas and tailored next steps according to your skills and wants. However, actual F2F training was fairly limited due to being a placement student. But there is lots of virtual training available to all.

Very appealing, with knowing how much time and money they invest in the future generations.
The Culture
IP Unite is the Placement Student Social gathering that would have various events. With ~350 placement students throughout GSK, there is always an opportunity to socialise.
Working at GSK House, Brentford, meant that we had to pay London prices. Which is something you cannot avoid, yet was not offered any moving bonus for having to live in the very expensive area.
London, it offers plenty of choices if you wish!
If you wanted to find something, you could. Always colleagues and people involved with or promoting outside activities.
