The Role
Surrounded by so many other IPs and friendly employees, I've found GSK an enjoyable environment to work in. The work has been challenging but that's what I'm here for!
As an IP at GSK you are treated as a full-time employee and valued as much as anyone else. At no time have I felt like an intern. My team is a mix of ages and experience and we all rely on each other to function as well as we can.
My manager has been extremely supportive and has kept my career goals in mind at all times, managing my workload so as to give me as wide an experience of the business as possible.
Always busy! When one task is complete, there's another one waiting to be done.
I was in charge of briefing, writing, building, planning and commissioning the consumer marketing emails for MaxiNutrition, which is a lot of responsibility. I never expected to be given so much responsibility from the word go, and it's really helped me develop.
My entire work ethic has changed. I now have improved time management, task management, interpersonal and organisational skills. These will help me in my career, my last year of uni and pretty much every other aspect of my life.
The Company
Hard at work but with a hum of chat. You can go and talk to whoever you like and everyone is glad to be of assistance. Other workplaces may be more light-hearted, informal and casual, but GSK is very corporate in nature and you're expected to act sensibly and professionally at all times (apart from socials).
I joined at a transitional period when my department was about to move to GSK House. Considering this, they did a good job of welcoming me and integrating me in the office. There are many steps to go through though, and it's quite faffy to get anything sorted, eg. IT issues and getting your staff photo pass printed
As an IP you're restricted in terms of training courses you can attend. I was trained in a couple of areas relevant to my job role, but wasn't able to get on a presentation skills course or similar. Your department only has so much budget and only a certain amount of this can be allocated to your training.

The grad scheme is highly competitive but very appealing. Direct entry roles are also very attractive. It's a great company to be a part of and I'd like to further my career here.
The Culture
Yes, it's work hard play hard. Plenty of like-minded IPs to go out with on nights out, pub quizzes, 5-a-side, squash etc...
at £5 a pint and £600 rent a month, West London is not cheap! A lot of the socials are in central too. Team socials are all paid for though.
Brentford has very little, but you only have to get a train for a few minutes until you're in Clapham or central London.
Touch rugby at lunch, football at lunch, squash courts, gym... We put together a couple of 5 a side teams and entered the monday night league down the road. There are all sorts of things like lunchtime running sessions for you to get involved in too.
