The Role
It was a wonderful placement. It gave me the opportunity to be able to work on a variety of IT projects within R&D. The people are incredibly communicative and treat you nicely and equally.
GSK R&D IT is a big family, people are very friendly to each other. They always give you positive feedback and empower you to progress throughout your placement.
My manager was always there for me. He was discussing complex problems around the company and commenting on IT and business strategies. Incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to discuss issues or concerns.
There are periods when you are really busy, working on 4-5 projects which is relatively normal and also times when you are not that busy so it really depends.
You are given real responsibility and you are actually doing quite a lot for the company, which is the best way to learn and enhance your IT and Business acumen.
A lot, a whole new world is in front of you.
The Company
Very friendly, supportive and creative. There a lot of jokes with the colleagues.
They have IPs for quite a while and you inherit some work from the previous IPs as well as given some new projects.
You have the opportunity to get enrolled in variety of training courses -Project Management lifecycle, etc. and the company is paying for that.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Incredibly, you can have a fast track to the graduate programme or even find a permanent position.
The Culture
It is a great fun. IPs are around the permanent staff and it is really great.
Quite cheap, I was in Stevenage.
It was okay, close to London but nothing special.
Yes, there are.
