The Role
I really enjoyed my time at GlaxoSmithKline. They provided me opportunitites to develop myself and get involved with projects that I thought would suit my skill set whilst creating new skills. They also encourgared me to work outside my boundaries.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was able to ask when I did not know the answer and they were able to trust that the work I did was to a high standard.
Again, I was provided with support and guidance from both my colleagues and my manager. They would suggest areas in which I could improve and the best ways to do this for example, facilitating meetings.
I was busy on a daily basis and this is what I loved about my work. I was fairly responsive and did not know what could occur on a daily basis. I was expected to manage my time to ensure that my everyday activities occurred whilst also ensuring I was able to assist on projects.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility which grew as I went further into my placement year. I facilitated meetings and become a point of contact allowing me further contact without the organisation. This would not have occurred if my manager did not trust and believe that I was able to handle any queries that may come to our department.
The skills I have developed will assist both after university and whilst at university. I have learnt the need for time management and organisational skills and how important these are in ensuring jobs are doing efficiently. I have also become more confident in my work and presenting to others.
The Company
The atmosphere was really good. You met people in other teams and everyone was really friendly. We also had a social group who organised events at my site which allowed people to network and have fun whilst at work.
It was very well organised. I was the first placement student in my team and they ensured that I always knew who I could turn to for help. I have been able to develop documents to pass to new students to ensure they have an easy transition into GSK.
My manager placed a lot of emphasis on my personal training and development and allowed me to take control of wok responsibilities. Furthermore, I was encouraged to get involved with other teams e.g. the social club at my site

The organisation places great emphasis on recruiting students back as graduates. You can apply for a graduate role whilst working and if you are not successful, there is still the chance of returning to GSK as a direct level entry.
The Culture
There was a good social scene organised by a core team however more site wide events could occur.
Living in London is expensive so I would shop around. However, I still had money to save and socialise after being paid
The nightlife was not too good in the area however it is only 20 minutes to travel to Paddington Station.
There was some opportunities however these aren't always publicised.
