    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • After a two week settling in period where the job and site was introduced, I have thoroughly enjoyed the placement. On a daily basis it has been action packed, exciting and interesting

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Whilst there are a couple of people from different departments who I had to work with who didnt provide as much "respect" , 90% of the people I have worked with including the people in my department have been great at making me feel a valued member of the company

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been working largely as a project engineer for which I have been given my own projects that I am responsible for. My manager was mostly available to ask questions but there were always other people in our team who could provide support if needed. I had a weekly 30 minute meeting with my manger to imform him of the status of my projects and any help that I needed

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • after the first two months where I mainly assisted on other projects - It has been incredibly busy non stop

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot - at times I thought I had been given too much. Throughout my placement I have been responsible for a section of an incredibly important project to site that my manger was leading. I came up with a process and have delivered that process to site. In doing this I have been responsible for the spending of hundereds of thousands of pounds as well a risk of costing the company millions should my process fail due to a delay in the bigger project

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A lot - I have performed a lot of design work which I expect will help me in my degree however the main things I have learnt will help me in my future career as an engineer. I have learnt is the way of working in a manufacturing environment, how to interact with a wide variety of people from suppliers to managers to operators

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Not much of a community outside of the office but everyone was very friendly and nice

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Since I acquried this placement, the process has been taken over by GSK central rather than my office getting its own individuals however the placement itself has been great and has been ongoing for a few years now producing quite a few engineers who have come back

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been on training courses, travelled internationally (to the US), been trusted and (occasionally) allowed to make mistakes and people have invested time into me to explain processes and give advice. Overall, the company has provided good environment for development
