The Role
It was really enjoyable as members of staff are very friendly and approachable. There was always someone to help me and guide me and my needs were met. I have been able to get involved with various projects across different functions of the organisation while being able to bond with colleagues via social outings.
Always felt like a team member, but one that got more attention and guidance due to being a placement student. This was very welcoming as it allowed me to settle into the corporate way of working and settle into my role with ease.
Management made me aware that they were always available if support or guidance was needed. My manager and I had regular weekly meetings set up to track my progress and work on any feedback. Along with this, there would be catch-ups and briefs in the mornings.
With GSK it can vary as you can take on any task you wish in order to develop yourself and keep progressing. Some days I would be in meetings all day; some days I would in meetings and working on projects/assignments; and other days I would have a meeting, work on a project/assignment and have some time available.
More than I had imagined when I started. You truly are treated like a team member and are treated as any other employee would be. It is up to you what you make of your role and how much you take on.
I developed technical skills in Microsoft Excel and SharePoint and these have become very useful as I have helped many employees in the business, resulting me in creating a bigger network. I have also developed resilience, networking and commercial awareness. If I were to pick the most valuable skill, it would be networking as I can use contacts for purposes such as dissertation, employment opportunities, etc...
The Company
Very lively. A vibrant and electrifying atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and easy to talk to. I found it very easy to meet new friends and get involved in social events as the office as very proactive in setting up events for employees.
Fantastic! There is a great structure in place to allow outgoing students to handover their projects and responsibilities to the incoming students. This is a transition period which enable the incoming student to settle in, become familiar with their environment and role, but also have someone they can relate to.
I was allowed to attend Microsoft Excel Level 2 training as I felt this would allow me to further my capabilities in my role. I was also sent on ITIL Foundation degree course to ready myself for my role, this is a recognised professional qualification - which will help me stand out when applying for graduate jobs.

Very good scheme with great benefits included. The schemes are structured very well and allow themselves to be tailored to the individual's development requirements.
The Culture
Yes, as we would always engage in table tennis and table football matches. We would also organise lunches, social outings and parties amongst ourselves.
Standard cost, not expensive nor cheap. Lived at home with parents, therefore did not have to worry about paying rent and bill.s
Not many nightclubs around, except for two. Did not attend these during my time on placement
Yes many opportunities. You can volunteer to carry out charity work of all sorts, e.g. helping schools.
