The Role
It was a very varied job which allowed me to work with a variety of different products. All my colleagues were nice and happy to help and there was a nice, relaxed environment to work in.
My opinions were encouraged, listened to and valued. Sometimes when i was reffered to as one of "the students" i didn't feel particularly valued- but this wasnt very often!
Everyone-not just management- was happy to help and explain things if i wanted to know. This helped me feel like part of the team as well.
It was so varied...sometimes it was hectic, other times it was less so. There was always something to do, even if it was one of the less fun tasks!
I was responsible for making some products as well as shared techshop and internet shop duties. Also shared responsibility of New Product Tasting. Also responsible for some Taste Panels.
All technical knowledge will be useful in the future. As well as the transferable skills.
The Company
Always encouraged chatting when the time was right.
Very well, had a good 2 week induction plan, then followed by 2 6 month stints- 1 in sweet goods, the other in beverage. In sweet goods there was opportunity to work in other lab's.
In terms of time, there was a lot spent explaining and training. Do not know monetary wise.

If i were to be offered a job with Givaudan, i think i would accept. However, i think the flavour industry is more for people who have had other experience in the food industry and have moved into it. I would like to end up in flavours at some point in my career.
The Culture
I went out with Lucy (the other placement student) once outside of work. Also saw her on work nights out. Was a bit difficult as she was living at home and i was renting a room in a house, plus we both had other plans.
Not too bad, the usual southern prices. There was plenty to do without spending money. Rent on my room was quite expensive, but it did include a lot so was worth it.
Good pubs, bars and club. Plus leisure facilities such as bowling and cinema.
Social club through work who had events on average, once a month.
