The Role
I really enjoyed the levels of responsibility on owning projects and the balance the company gave on supporting and stretching me.
I felt incredibly valued by colleague and especially my management team, they were always quick to ensure I was ok with the work I was getting on with and that the placement was meeting my needs.
The support was brilliant, especially at the start, as the year has gone on the support has been less frequent but this may coincide with increased capabilities.
The role that I was working in meant that there was no real weekly structure. My workload fluctuated depending on what time of the year it was, meaning that some days I was incredibly busy and other days I was less busy.
I was given a lot of responsbility during my placement. This seemed to increase when credibility was built with key stakeholders, however at the beginning there was still a real trust placed in the work I was doing.
The structure of planning projects over a number of weeks will really help me to balance my modules and there respective deadlines. A big learning point will be the balance you need to strike, this will really help me to balance different aspects of my degree/life when back at University. I feel the biggest aspect of knowledge gained was how to be more commercial and I will take this back with me into my studies.
The Company
The atmosphere and culture was good - a perfect balance of performance and people.
The organisation has had placement students for a number of years now so they know the cycle of how placement students develop.
I was fortunate because of my role, to be close to much of the training development. In terms of policy, usually placement students do not qualify for capability training.

The future opportunities at the company are very appealing, but the competition is fierce so it is about being realistic.
The Culture
There was a great social scene, as the company has it's own IP forum whereby social and charity events are organised. This gave a great opportunity to meet new people across the different functions and areas of GSK.
The cost of living and socialising was expensive, but not out of line with what you'd expect in London.
The nightlife near the office was pretty mundane, but with a short tube/train journey you could be in central London where it is fantastic.
Yes - for example I ran Tough Mudder through the placement students charity team.
