The Role
I have really enjoyed my experience with BAT - I have felt part of a group and have been well supported all year. You get to feel both part of the student group and also part of your team, with great social aspects of both.
The work I have done here has been important for the company and isn't just something for the student to do. Everyone is interested in how a project is working and wants to help
There are a lot of training opportunities and also chances for skill learning ie CV's
Although the placement may have been a little slow to start with it quickly picked up into a full time job.
My project had been my own, and thus it is my responsibility to make sure it is running well, deadlines are met and next steps considered
Just working in a company teaches you loads, but then there are all the training sessions, skill workshops and teaching on principles too
The Company
People don't mind if you talk a bit, but neither is it too loud and busy to focus. Everyone is approachable and will always have time for your questions
There are a few people who co-ordinate the student activities and they do this well - even though I was from a different site to the other students I still felt part of the student community and I believed this was thanks to this small team. It was always clear what was expected of us and activities were well organised.
This year I have been able to attend many courses including stats and external project management qualifications.

Every month the whole of my site will go out for a meal in a new restaurant
I lived in Cambridge so it was expensive. There are however student events to be found
Cambridge is a university city but the nightlife is mild.
There was always things to do. I have been able do join many student socities even though I am not part of the university
