The Role
The placement was a great experience, where I have learned many different things. Great experience and great working environment.
I had to work on various new tools that would be used within the department and I worked closely with several managers. After finishing a project and seeing how everyone uses the tools, makes you feel more valued.
I was able to ask my manager, whenever I would struggle with any particular task in order to receive guidance. Also there are weekly "1 to 1" sessions, where the manager would provide additional guidance if needed.
According to my responsibilities I had weekly routine reports to run as well as work on various projects, meaning that there would always be something to do.
I was responsible for producing various reports on time and making sure that everything within them is correct. Furthermore, there was added significantly more responsibility, when I was given projects to work on.
In my job role I needed to strengthen my technical skills such as working with Access, Excel and Excel VBA. I had a lot of training during the handover and received a lot of guidance from my manager.
The Company
The atmosphjere is very good to work in. If I would have any questions, I was able to ask anyone in the office and they would take their time to help me out understand how the business operates. This is especially useful at the very beginning of the placement in order to gain a better overview of the business.
Before your placement beigns, the organization has a couple of open days, where general information about the placement is presented, you meet other placement students and the organization helps you to search for a house, where you would be living over the next year. At the beginning of the placement there is two week handover period, where you learn about your job position from the previous undergraduates, whereafter there is gradually given more responsibility over time.
There has been a lot of training during the handover period, whereafter if I would still have questions I could easily talk to my manager or even other colleagues in the office and receive additional guidance.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Unfortunately, the company does not have a graduate scheme.
The Culture
There are quite many undergraduates on placement at Vauxhall, meaning that you get to know a lot of people.
I worked in Luton and the living costs are quite small, considering that it is located near London.
Quite poor. However, on the bright side London is quite near, where you can take the train.
There are various events/activities outside of work, which people can choose to participate in such as playing football, which occurs on a weekly basis.
