The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement and feel I have learnt a large variety of skills. I have had opportunites to devleop my skills outside of my day to day job by attending regular training activities. There are about 80 other students on this placement which means there is a lively social atmosphere. I had real responsibility from day one of my placement and my manager always ensured I had enough work to keep me busy and also that I was never struggling to cope with it.
I feel like my colleagues saw me as an equal and I I felt like a part of the team from my first day on placement.
My manger gave me a lot of support and I had weekly one to ones with them to go through any issues I had. These sessions were useful to I could let her know if I needed more work to do and also if I was struggling with my workload. She was always happy to help me out with any queries I had.
There were times when I found myself with no enough work to do, but this was after I had improved and therefore became more efficient at the work I had. When I found myself with not enough work to do I spoke with my manager who found me more work to do.
I had responsibility from my first day on the job, I was never just doing paperwork or filing. Throughout the year I have always felt able to ask my colleagues for help and advice so even at the beginning it felt slightly daunting I could ask them any queries I had regarding the deicisions I had to make.
It has helped me learn what a real job after uni may be like and I will go back to uni with a real work ethic; I will be happy to work at uni all day which will allow me to gain a better final grade. I have learnt a lot of transferable skills, such as presentation, written and verbal communication and microsfot office skills.
The Company
The office had a very relaxed atmosphere with a very friendly and helpful feel. I was able to talk to my colleagues without feeling as though I was distracting others sat nearby.
It was very well organised. Any quesitons I had at any time during the year I knew who to go to and I was answered very efficiently. The whole application process was simple and well explained. I also found it very easy when it came to relocating for the placement. Vauxhall offered a handbook which listed local houses they recommend we live in and there was also a couple of days before the placement started for everyone to meet.
There was lots of chances for training through the year, including presentation, excel and access training.

The Culture
There are about 80 other placement students so you are always going to find at least a couple of people you get along with.
Luton is fairly cheap, housing and nights out are very affordable, especially on the income you earn.
Not the best, but as long as you go out with a good group of friends it can be fun. Also not far from London so that is always a good place for a better night out
Yeah there are a lot of sporting events
