The Role
I very much enjoyed my placement this year. I can honestly say that I have learned more than I thought I would and that my role has given me the responsibility I wanted while on placement regards to my own projects and the real life pressure of working in a global organization.
With my role I worked with many departments and employees from all over the world on a number of projects, big and small. I felt that when working on projects with a number of colleagues I was needed to help develop new ideas, run projects and see them through to completion. My responsibilities and the feedback I received made me feel valued as an employee. I was relied on to provide support in many areas and this was occasionally stressful but character building.
During my placement I had two different managers with different approaches to work and management. The support I had from both was more than I could ever need. One being local in the same office and the other being a phone call or email away with daily/weekly meetings to help with guidance. The support I was given really helped me to improve and better myself throughout placement.
When I found my own way of managing projects and time I was busy the majority of time. There were times where I was under pressure to finis a project or prepare for a last minute meeting but the company/department/managers were very organized.
I think personally my responsibility was high in regards to managing projects from the beginning requirement stages right through the signing off stage. I was always guided but was in complete control of the majority of tasks I undertook.
My degree does closely relate to my role with some variations but I think the skills I gained in regards to working in a global organization will really help me when looking for a graduate role.
The Company
Very relaxed which was comforting when first starting. But more importantly everyone no matter their status were very approachable. The office in environment for me changed 3 times while being here due to office moves but again all locations were of a good standard and everyone worked with each other without a problem.
The organization of the overall placement I felt was great. Handover - This was when the previous undergraduate stayed on for (in my case) 6 weeks to handover everything he had done during that year. So projects, responsibilities and anything else I needed to know. This was crucial to my role and would not have been able to succeed without this initial process being so organized. Social schedule - The social side to the job is excellent. With over 80 other undergraduates the amount of activities you can be a part of over the year is endless. With Vauxhall organizing a lot of them at the beginning and end. Living - Halls of residence were organized for the first 2 weeks which was very helpful and an allocated day before starting placement was used to look for housing with everything organized for you.
There were a few training schemes like, Excel, Presentation training and online tests and material through the company you can take. I think there should have been more development opportunities in regards to technical knowledge learned as most of it was self taught.

I'm honestly not sure when my job roles responsibilities are undertaken by the undergraduates each year and in the U.S.
The Culture
The social scene is great with so many undergraduates mentioned previously and occasional events setup for us to be a part of
£300 a week and around £20 for bills. 1 mile away from work Cheap nights out and travel to London being very convenient.
Not the best in Luton but there are surrounding areas like Watford and of course central London that make up for it being 45 min train journey away
Multiple gyms to choose from all with their own activities
