The Role
I really enjoyed my placement! I have been given a lot of responsibility and it has been great to add my own flair to the role. Intel is a relaxed working environment and with such a large intern community the social side has been really good too.
Being part of such a large-multi national corporation, lots of the colleagues I worked with are geographically sparse across the Globe. Meaning I don't actually sit with the majority of the team. However it is such friendly environment, so I have got to know the people that I sit near and even go into the staff of another team as extra who are based in Swindon.
The guidance of my manager was fantastic. We have regular one on one meetings, where I would bring up what I'm working on, what I'd like to work on and what I'm struggling with. If I have had any ideas of how we could adapt the business or our strategy she has been keen to push them through and has made me feel that I have a valuable place in the organization.
Lots of my work was revolved around projects and project management, which meant some days I as extremely busy and other days were abit quieter. However I felt this gave me the chance to experience other areas of the organization and come up with my own projects and ideas and to see these through.
I was given a great amount of responsibility! The organization and my team have been changing massively since a year ago when I started. Meaning in some areas I have taken ownership and became the 'expert'. I've also owned projects and have been able to network and present these to people high up in the organization.
First of all, it has been useful to be able to apply the theories I have learnt in my studies to an actual real life organization and see how these play in practice, so that has definitely been useful and helped me see the areas which I might perhaps want to pursue a career in. But I've also developed a wide variety of soft skills. Things like communicating in large teams, presenting to people across the globe, how to push through ideas and how to network and massively confidence. I feel prepared for getting a job after I finish University!
The Company
The office was an open desk environment, which means your close to others and can easily collaborate. The facilities are fantastic, there's a restaurant, coffee shop, access to a nearby gym and even a beauty salon!
At Intel there is around a five week handover period. Which means you have time to understand the role you will be taking over and feel confident in carrying it out. Every 3 months I will sit down with my manager and we will establish objectives for the coming three months. This way I can track my personal development and ensure I am getting the best out of my experience.
In the first few weeks at Intel, we were educated on the company history, products, future goals and missions so we really got a good background before we started. Throughout the year we were often invited to onsite training courses in everything from Project Management to Teamwork and relationships. You can go on as many or as little as you like and were treated just like a full time employee. I was also fortunate enough to be able to complete specific training which is relevant to my job and really felt like I had the same investment as someone who is full time in the team.

In my area of the organisation there isn't necessarily a 'Graduate Scheme' but I was able to have constant chats with my manager and I would say if you do your job well and are flexible about coming back into the organization there is a serious opportunity to be hired back.
The Culture
There is a large intern community of approximately 60 students which means there is always something going on. Whether this means going on a night out or sports activities. During the handover period, when there are over 100 interns the social scene is really busy!
The cost of living in Swindon is really reasonable. There is plenty of spare money to live comfortably and to go on weekend trips/holidays.
There are plenty of bars and pubs to go for drinks and cocktails. I wouldn't say there is many Clubs where you can go on a full on night out. However your not too far from places like Bath, Bristol, Reading and London- so it's easy to travel abit further for a big night.
There is a Netball, Badminton, Football and Go-Karting team which means there is something for everyone. These are really relaxed and not overly competitive so pretty much anyone can play and its fun to do.
