The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my time at GSK. Definitely a top placement. Would recommend this company to other students looking for a placement.
Very valued. Completed real world tasks that actually benefitted the business. If I hadn’t have been given the tasks then my manager would have had to do them.
I was lucky enough to have 2 different managers and a very supportive team. My main manager had weekly one to ones with me and helped me throughout the year on any tasks I needed help with. Also recieved lot's of feedback throughout the year on how I was doing and what I could improve on.
Varies depending on the projects I was working on at the time. Some hectic weeks, some slower weeks. Generally had enough work to keep going throughout each day. Nice balance. If I didn't have enough work I could get more and if I had too much I could pass on work to other people.
As the placement went on I was given more and more responsibility. It was a case of the more you show you can do something the more responsibility you will be given. By the end I was managing rather large projects.
I would say the skills I developed were more beneficial than the skills I have learnt so far on my degree. Couldn't recommend enough taking a year out of study to complete a placement.
The Company
Generally quiet, open plan office space. Meeting rooms available for the louder calls but free to take calls in the open. Friendly staff, people chatting throughout the day.
Very well organised. Multiple staff who have responsibility to look after the interns. Several events throughout the year for us to attend. Training provided where necessary. Everything ready for when we arrived.
Some paid courses available IF they would benefit your job. Not too many interns recieved this. However huge training plan of online learning that must be completed when you arrive, including additional other free short courses that can be taken throughout your year. Mainly on the job training other than that.

They have a very competative graduate scheme. However you are not guaranteed a place by being an intern and they only take a handful of people per year.
The Culture
There is a team created when you start purely for socialising.
Expensive as near London.
Some but you have to travel slightly further to get anything good.
Yes, multiple events throughout the year such as volunteering and other charity events. Most activities were social organised by the interns.
