The Role
My year at IBM gave me a great insight into working life. They have a well structured scheme in place for University placement students and there is so much opportunity to branch out.
My team made me feel very welcome & gave me a lot of responsibility in the business very early on.
The structure at IBM makes sure that you always have a point of call if you ever need it. Having someone there was really beneficial when wanting to do other tasks & branch out into other areas of IBM.
Due to many financial processes being monitored on a quarterly/monthly basis this meant that there were quiet periods. I appreciated this as it meant that I had more time exploring other areas within IBM & looking into the graduate schemes for when I finished placement.
For an intern I was given much more experience than I would have thought I would be. Despite this, there was always someone to talk to if there was an issue or I needed support.
It has really helped me to distinguish where my main skill sets lie and what I would like to explore more when I am
The Company
The office that I was based in is extremely quiet & this meant that it was demotivating at times. When I ventured up to the offices in London, it was a completely different story & it was lovely to see the huge amounts of enthusiasm from the different employees. This has allowed me to identify where I would like to be based as a graduate.
IBM has a great scheme in place and is really working with the current University Placement students to improve this further in the future.
The company have many facilities to allow you to explore the different areas of business & to engage in any training you believe to be beneficial.

The Culture
After a number of fantastic events & even a girls holiday I would say the social scene is great within the placement students.
The cost of living was reasonable to say we were living in such a beautiful are by the sea. We were also close to a University allowing us to socialise with them too.
A good range throughout the city & nearby.
There are a number of sports clubs around the area as well as gyms & social activities,.
