The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at IBM. I worked in a small team that offered me great support and I was task managed by someone who really understood my position and the importance of personal development.
I received constant feedback from my employees on the good work that I was doing, but also where I should improve. Having both elements of feedback meant that I felt valued and my professional development was important to others.
IBM give each placement student two managers- a task manager and a manager who is solely responsible for professional development. I found that both managers were forthcoming with support and guidance.
A good balance, my team were very appreciative of when I was busy and would take on my actions when necessary.
My task manager often gave me projects to build from the ground up. It's because of this, I can mark a lasting eminence within the team.
Skills that I have developed at IBM will assist me greatly in my final year and beyond. Presentation, communication, passion for business and even soft skills such as conference call use are just some of the skills that I have been able to exercise.
The Company
A good atmosphere, the University Placement Students create a good vibe.
The placement scheme is governed by 'Foundation', a body of managers who are tasked with the professional development of early professionals. The scheme is well organised and funded accordingly.
I felt very invested in, however some Giveback events were attended at my own personal cost.

Good, I am embarking on a Summer Placement with IBM that will offer me the opportunity to come back on a Graduate scheme.
The Culture
Yes, my office housed around 60 other placement students and we regularly engaged in out of work activities.
I was based in the Portsmouth office- on the whole, Portsmouth is manageable financially.
Good, the office is close to Gunwharf Quays where there are a selection of bars and clubs.
Sports and other social activities were on offer. The IBM club also offers trips at discounted rates.
