The Role
I had an excellent time on my placement with ProspectSoft. Everyone in the office was very friendly and splitting my time between two departments meant there was always something new to learn or do.
Being a fairly small company at the time I quickly got to know everyone at ProspectSoft. Being invited to company events also really helped me to feel part of the team!
I was lucky enough to work on a desk in the same office as my manager which meant that I was able to get advice as and when I needed it.
Splitting my time between two departments meant that there was always something for me to do, however I never felt excessively rushed.
While I started off working on some fairly straightforward tasks I found that my responsibilities rapidly increased and I was given as much responsibility as I thought I could handle. I even ended up flying solo to Germany to help set up our software product for Intel to demonstrate at the CeBit exhibition!
I largely attribute the fact that I graduated top of my class with a first class honours degree to the experience and confidence that I gained while working at ProspectSoft.
The Company
I really liked everyone that I worked with at ProspectSoft and can say that there wasn't a single person in the office that I didn't get on with. Infact that's still the case today.
Being the first placement that had worked at ProspectSoft there wasn't a huge amount of organisation around the process. However at the time there didn't really need to be, I lived locally and regular contact with my boss meant that I always knew what I was doing.
The company runs training courses on its software which are taken by users, resellers and internal staff members alike. These gave me a great start to working with the software. Other than that I've always preferred to learn things off my own back but ProspectSoft would always help by buying books etc that I needed.
International Travel
Since returning to the company after my placement I've worked full time in development, followed by being promoted to team leader and then to my current position of Software Development Manager. So yeah, all in all I'd say pretty good! :)
The Culture
At the time of my placement I was the only student at ProspectSoft.
I lived at home so had plenty of money for the occasional night out!
We had some good company nights out in High Wycombe but it's probably no secret that there are better places around. Luckily they're not too far away!
Despite me being the only placement student there was quite a large group of young people to socialise with. Also there are regular events throughout the year where the whole company gets together for an event.
