    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working at IBM as I have met a lot of people and have learnt a lot about the work environment

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This I would say was a downfall of working at IBM. Unfortunately there was no one on my team who works within the UK, so I spend the majority of my time completing work by myself.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As my manager works out of the office quite often I do not feel like I was given to much support. However I feel like this helped as I have gained many skills such as problem solving.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am always busy with work throughout the day. However, the work is not too difficult as it becomes very repetitive

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I am given a lot of responsibility as without my my job role people on my team who are located in different countries would have a much larger work load making there jobs much more difficult.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt many skills during my placement which I will use towards my degree and especially future careers. These include communication skills, writing skills, problem-solving skills, organisation skills, interview skills and more!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As my team worked outside the UK the atmosphere was very dull. I feel like I am not working in a proper working environment as I sit alone. However, we have software which allows us to communicate with our colleagues around the world so if there is anything I ever need I am able to ask people for assistance. I am also able to move to other offices where other interns may be working and work in their environment which is much better as there is a nice atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was set up very well. I had all the information needed about my job role before starting and was able to find a house and housemates (who also work at IBM with me) so I had living arrangements sorted.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As I started my job I had the former intern who I took over explain to me the job role before he left. This was very useful as I was able to get a full idea of what to expect when beginning at IBM. Unfortunately he was only there for a month so part of the job role I had to learn by myself.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As the job role doesn't really relate to my course I do not think I would consider any future employments within IBM. However I would recommend the company to certain people depending on their course.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene at IBM as we all lived very close and in London. This meant that after work we were able to go for drinks and have activities each weekend.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising is quite expensive as we will in London. However there are many activities which we have found which are affordable and do not require spending money on things such as alcohol, etc.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was very good as there are many clubs in London. However these can be very expensive depending on where you go.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there are many activities to get involved in. The interns themselves make many activities to get everyone involved and there are company games which you can part-take in.

    4/5
