The Role
Gave me a great insight into how the company is run and given real tasks with real responsibilities.
I was given work to do that needed to be done, not just busy work to keep me occupied and my colleagues were always appreciative of the work I did and would offer further work where possible.
Offered support when/where it was needed but also given space and responsibility and trusted to just get on with tasks that were set for me.
80% of the time was as busy as I would like it to be, 10% too busy and 10% of the time was not busy enough. Overall a very good balance as work was dependent on levels of demand.
I was given work that needed to be done and was part of driving forward some of the main projects that my team had. They were not just giving me work for the sake of it and others relied on me to get my side of the work done so that they could complete their part of it.
A lot of skills I gained that will be useful in working life although my degree subject was not related to my role so a lot of what I gained will not be transferable back to my degree subject. Some of the universal skills will carry across and other skills will be useful once I finish University.
The Company
Good atmosphere, if you wanted to have a chat and a bit of banter there was always someone around to talk to but it was quiet and serious enough to get work done when you needed.
The support system was very good around it but as I was part of the first intake of my particular placement, one of my teams didn't have quite enough work for me initially as they didn't know what to expect (what complexity of work they could give me) but they soon adapted and gave me more responsibility and different tasks to do so the initial problem was very understandable and unlikely to happen again now that they have experience of having a placement student
I attended quite a few development events and was given training on various pieces of software. People were also always willing to help me out with anything that I wasn't sure how to do including the use of systems, general work e.g. advanced excel
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have been put straight through to a final interview for a position in a different department at EY, people were very willing and happy to help me find employment there.
The Culture
There were a few events put on and a social group formed of all the placement students in London and a couple of events for the UK wide placements. There were a lot of company social events to meet others throughout the company.
London is expensive but the salary was enough to survive on.
It's London so there is any kind of nightlife and activity that you would like from pubs, bars, restaurants, theatres, sporting events..
Plenty of activities affiliated to EY and also obviously a lot of opportunities around London to do any other hobbies or activities that you're interested in.
