The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I was part of a great team from whoom I recieved all the help and support I needed.
As I took on more jobs throughout the year I felt that my value in my team grew greatly.
I was given all the support I needed by my team, I was not allocated a supervisor as such but I felt that I had sufficient support.
It varied day to day depending on the development of a project however there were small weekly jobs that needed to be done so in quieter periods I undertook those.
I was given a fair amount of responisibilty as I was the driver for several projects and also was the representative for my department on a plant wide project,
I believe my interpersonal and organisational skills have been developed massively due to the range of staff I had to interact with on a regular basis. This I believe will help me duing individual and group projects during my studies as often organisation is a falling point in group projects.
The Company
Great atmosphere within our office, all personnel were friendly.
At the start of the placement we had a 2-week handover period which allowed the previous undergraduate to introduce me to the role, also we had to complete one week on the line as an operator which gave each undergraduate a good insight into the production process. I did not have any formal introduction to my department but was involved in jobs from the start and therefore settled into the placement quickly.
Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to go on any courses in areas such CAD and 3D printing which I would have liked however I was given informal training on computer packages by my colleagues.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
International Travel
Prospects are good within the company as they commit to taking on a number of undergraduates each year. From speaking to colleagues there are many chances to move positions at Vauxhalls.
The Culture
Our group of undergraduates would meet up socially outside of work once a month or so, within my team we had met up outside of work several times
Reasonable cost generally in the local area.
Great nightlife as there is the option of Chester or Liverpool closeby.
After getting to know colleagues I began going mountain biking regularly with friends from work.
