The Role
Really enjoyable year, amazing insight to pharma industry and met a lot of interesting friendly people
Very valued - the student's work is crucial as part of each project. Your research and work is recognised
To a certain extent you need to adapt to a different working environment where sometimes you cannot receive all the guidance you need and learn indepedence and the ability to ask other people. I have found by not having the most guidance I have learnt more.
Never bored, especially in the middle of your project where things are busy alongside writting your dissertation very very busy!
A lot of responsibility for your work, and gained more responsibility throughout the year
Amazing skills, amazing insight into industry, so much advantage over other students without a placement year, working alongside full time staff running your own lab work. Very good skills even if you do not continue in research.
The Company
Good atmosphere in open plan office, sometimes maybe too quiet
Very well organised, a lot of students here on placement
A lot of valuable lab skills, also opportunities for lectures and CV/interview workshops
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Probably more likely to do a PhD elsewhere initially, not much immediate opportunites straight out of uni if you want to go into research
The Culture
Amazing so many students here, many socials organised by students themselves, as well as IP Unite the Student body here across GSK sites
Relatively expensive as you would need to travel to London
Stevenage itself only good for Spoons, but close-ish to London!
