The Role
Really Really enjoyed the year. Met some great people & learnt a lot.
My team are very dependant on me & are grateful for the work I do.
You have a dedicated personal development manager who helps you get the most out of your year. My other manager also helps me if I get stuck.
Quite busy. I always fill a 8 - 5 day. I have taken on a lot of additional projects though.
The right level. People depend on me but nothing that would really affect the company if I made a mistake.
Skills will be more important in a later job rather than university. I now know how to network & the subtleties of business etiquette.
The Company
Lots of interns in the Southbank office so always someone to go out with & have a joke. In a sales team, sometimes my team were quite stressed, but all friendly & supportive.
There is a formal scheme so some education modules you have to attend & regular chances for feedback and learning. The placement to Grad process can be seen as unfair though as everyone is judged differently.
This can depend on your specific job role but in general there are lots of chances to learn about employability skills. You can also gain shadowing experiences to learn more about the company.

Only 30% of Interns can gain a graduate job in the intern to graduate process. You can apply externally though. I think an IBM placement stands you in good stead with other companies & you maybe have a better chance elsewhere than getting back into IBM.
The Culture
Amazing. There are just so many people in Southbank that you will defintley make friends. Almost like being a fresher again. Didn't particularly socialise with my team much but they were quite older than me.
It's the middle of London, its ridiculous!!!!!! If you are living away from home do not really expect to save any money and have a good social life.
It's really good but I wouldn't say you could go out all the time on the intern wage. London is indeed very expensive. We usually go out in the week to places with happy hour. Look out for offers & deals in the city as well.
There is a great social life but nothing really like activities. Some boys organised there own football team but that was self-organised. IBM compete in the coporate games once a year but there aren't really teams interns can get involved in. Find a good set of friends and start some hobbies with them!
