    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the work that I undertook, however slight reduction in rating due to the lack of direction at the beginning of placement in terms of starting the project work.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very close team of colleagues, made to feel welcome and extremely valued for the work that I was contributing to the unit. Also encouraged to shadow colleagues in their work/investigations and trusted from the offset with confidential and sensitive security information.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was readily available at all times, provided good structure and guidance and I always felt that I could go to them with any query/issue. Also felt that my development needs were well catered for as my manager encouraged me to engage in a wide variety of business activities and anything that I felt would be of interest to me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The first six weeks of my placement were spent with a relatively low work load, however, I was encouraged to become involved in any project work/investigations/roadshows that I felt would be of interest. The final six weeks were much more driven and the work load more suitable.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was giving a great amount of responsibility, being solely accountable for all Business Management remit within a Unit of over forty people. I became the main point of contact for the project work undertaken and was responsible for delivering the work to an external project manager.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that the skills I developed will help me in my further career. These are the basis for my work ethic/interpersonal skills.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Working next to a team of Investigators meant that the office was lively, everybody was friendly and lots of banter! All around me worked extremely long hours and often antisocial hours but while in the office the enthusiasm never waned.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised well from a top level- the recruitment team for the entire internship scheme co-ordinated induction/events well, were in regular contact and very approachable. I do however feel that more effort should be made between the recruitment team and the line managers in asscertaining specific project work for interns arriving into the company.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My line manager encouraged me to undertake as much training and development as possible. After carrying out the mandatory training I was free to use my time as I saw fit to complete any further online training courses. I was also put forward for a witness statement/investigator day course as I demonstrated an interest in the work of the investigators. On the whole, very good at promoting development.
