The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed both the work I was did and the people that I worked with.
All were welcoming and helped you feel at ease when you started.
The support and guidance was fantastic. I was assigned a mentor when I started who I interacted with throughout my placement, offering their support and coaching through challenging situations. Together with my line manager, I had an extremely helpful support network.
There was the odd occasion where I felt like I had very little to do but this was balanced with days when I was very busy. There was always something for me to pick up and do.
I was entirely responsible for the creation, leading and delivering of numerous projects throughout my time on my placement, ranging across different parts of the business.
My skills have developed incredibly over the past year; not just my confidence but also my self-awareness of what I'm good at and what I enjoy. I will definitely be using them in future.
The Company
The general atmosphere is very positive and bubbly, everyone takes a genuine interest in how you're doing.
As an Industrial Placement scheme as a whole, the scheme appears to be very well set up. However, I think the organisation in my actual department is much better than that of the whole scheme.
The company invested a lot in our personal development, you are encouraged to go and see other areas of the business that you may be interested in and go on several development days with all the other placement students throughout the year. Each of these looks at a different skill area and is a great time to reflect on your development journey throughout the year.

Although nothing is guaranteed, I would feel much more prepared going into applying for any role within Waitrose or the Partnership having experienced their ways of working for the past year.
The Culture
Good social scene, plenty of events held to encourage socialising and networking
Reading is more expensive than where I go to university but that's general for the South, still very reasonable given how much you earn on the placement.
Reading is really close by and London is only a short train journey away!
The Partnership is really good at providing many opportunities for activities outside of work, however I didn't take full advantage.
