The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement here, I was able to see a wide range of engineering in industry.
The further the year progressed the more I felt valued and actually took responsibility for big pieces of work and reported to managers in higher up positions.
I was supported and guided far more at the start of the year, but even at the end I was still able to go and ask for help if I needed it.
The year started fairly quietly but I became more and more busy throughout, but it never really became excessive, and was a good balance.
Later on in the year I was taking on more and more responsibility and by the end I was running my own projects and reporting to the staff group on some (directors at the plant).
Although not directly relating to my degree subject-wise, I have been able to develop skills such as communication and work ethic that I can take forward with me.
The Company
The office was quiet but there was a positive atmosphere at all times and it was conducive to work.
The start of the year (handover) was well organised but I felt that the rest was not organised quite as well as it could have been.
During my time at Vauxhall I was able to attend several training courses and go to several exhibitions during work hours e.gg at the Excel centre in London.

I've heard that it is quite hard to secure a job after the placement but it has been done in the past.
The Culture
Yes, most undergrads bonded well and socialised together every week.
Luton is a very cheap area to live and socialise compared to what I'm used to (live in Surrey and go to university in Loughborough).
Pretty terrible, but it was cheap so there is that side of it! Possible to take the train elsewhere for a better night.
Almost every week there was an email sent around offering opportunities to get involved outside of work e.g. London to Brighton, London Marathon.
