The Role
I have enjoyed my 13 month placement with Golfbreaks.com greatly and have learnt massive life lessons in personal development and professionalism.
In my Role I looked after Non Residential Golf days, this involved a large sales element and a large amount of customer service for the travelling groups. I was made to feel fundamental to the business in its day-to-day running and this was a great experience..
I worked in a department that was made up of two individuals, my boss and myself. We worked closely all year and had a great working relationship for which I was fortunate.
Working in the Golf Hospitality industry the business can be seasonal, however we ran promotions during quiet times to generate business and maintain a steady pace of business across the year. During the Golfing season we were extremely busy.
As mentioned I was responsible for Non Residential Golf days and this included high ticket corporate outings which demanded responsibility. My Role was unique in that I was responsible for the initial sale and the customer service elements right through until the group have travelled. I feel that I was giving a large degree of responsibility.
I feel that the analytical skills as well as the communication skills I have learnt from being a park of Golfbreaks.com assist me greatly going forward and will allow me to achieve in the future. I feel the professionalism I have leant will help me when I return to the workplace in the near future.
The Company
We moved offices half way through our placement which was a great experience. The new offices are state of the art and they have a great 'work hard play hard' ethos which makes it a great environment to speak a year in industry.
I feel that there could have been more social activities among the placement students to build relationships, however every other aspect of the placement was extremely well organised and I had complete clarity on my role and the roles of others around me.
At outset I had some sales training and training in the systems that Golfbreaks.com use. I have also had Habit training as well as Sales force training which will be very helpful going forward.

I have worked for both Teeofftimes.co.uk and Golfbreaks.com during my placement and have enjoyed all aspects of the job. If an opportunity were to arise within Golfbreaks.com or the wider Golf industry I would seriously consider it.
The Culture
The Social scene was good with 20ish placements working each year for Golfbreaks.com, there were a number of socials organised by the company through the year which were great opportunities to meet and build relationships with other placements and full time staff.
Golfbreaks.com is based in Windsor which is a rather expensive spot and this did prevent a number of the placements from living around the area. I rented a house in Windsor with another placement student and we managed the year well and were able to budget accordingly. Golfbreaks.com provided several opportunities to earn extra money via sales bonus or overtime incentives.
The nightlife was different from Newcastle-upon-Tyne were I studied for two years previous and the average age was about 15 years older however with such a close proximity to London there was lots of places to socialise by night. There are a few very nice bars and restaurants in Windsor that are well worth a visit.
I am a relatively keen Golfer and I was able to get a lot of complementary Golf around the London area which was a great way to spend the summers evenings. Golfbreaks.com organise a range of events across the year for full time and placement students alike.
