The Role
The year I spent at Aldi was challening but also very enjoyable. The huge level of responsibilty you gain from day one is totally different to any other placement on offer which I really enjoyed.
Everyday is a very busy one at Aldi. No day is the same as the next and at no moment are you sat still and bored! I really liked being so busy as time did fly very fast.
The responsibilty at Aldi from day one is huge. At first I felt out of my depth but they except you will make mistakes and as long as you learn from these this is the best way to learn things quickly. The responsibilty ranged from running a store to having important projects that had the potential to be roled out nationally.
Going back to third year now I have learnt many skills that I can apply to my third year. These skills include improved organisation, self motivation and the drive to do well to achieve the best possible grade. Going to a 9am lecture now wont feel nearly as hard as it did in second year!
The Company
When working in stores or in regional office there was always a great atmosphere. Everyone was so inclusive and wellcoming I never felt out of place. This was very helpful as the whole year was very fast paced and you tend to move around a lot so you are always having to build new relationships thoughout the year.
The placement year was organised well however there was a lot if differences within each region and nationally. I personally had a very good year as I pushed for my own training so I got the most out of the year as I could, however, I know others didnt have the same experience.
To come back as an area manager is very appealing. From the first day of working at Aldi it was clear that if you did well in this year you would be offered a job on the graduate scheme. The area manager role is appealing due to the job role being very flexible, it being a well thought of job and the job also pays very well.
The Culture
Within my region all the industrial placement students lived togther so the social aspect was very good as we all lived together and worked together.
The area I lived in was cheap however there was not many places to go out and socialise within the local area. However due to all of us living together it made it a lot easier to be more social.
The nightlife was poor. It made it a litrle easier when everyone was on the same shifs.
There was no opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. However due to us all living together we would often all do things together so this was not always a problem.
