About You
I found it extremely interesting and very insightful - giving me a hands on experience of what it is like to work as a solicitor for Allen & Overy and the daily tasks/routines of solicitors. I found it to be very influential and it confirmed my ambition to be a practising lawyer in a City law firm. I will definitely apply for vacation schemes with Allen & Overy, and hopefully a apply for a training contract, based upon how welcoming, informative and exciting the insight day was.
I felt very valued and all the graduate recruitment team made a special effort to make us feel welcome as individuals. My mentor was also as helpful as possible and I appreciated the tips and advice I was given, as well as the detailed and clear answers to my questions. The 'speed networking' session was equally a point in which I felt valued; the people talking to us had a genuine interest and were willing to listen and answer out questions to a high level.
The support and guidance was invaluable for applying for vacation schemes and allowing us to understand the process. I felt that there was ample guidance, especially from the graduate recruitment team, and our trainee mentors.
The skills I developed, or the skills which were highlighted which we should develop in the future to improve our chances of success, was very useful. The information will help me in both the short term, and in the long term, in regards to appreciating what law firms are looking for. Also, the information given will allow me to have more confidence in my applications. Equally, what I thought was great was the fact that on the insight day the more business elements of working in the law firm were introduced to us, such as the 'Anatomy of a Deal' video. This improved my understanding of 'commercial awareness', which will be greatly beneficial in the future.
The Company
The day was very well structured, with an itinerary which I thought was very useful as it allowed us to know what the day was to hold.
I thoroughly enjoyed my insight day at Allen & Overy. It was very informative, and everyone was extremely accommodating and welcoming. It has been very influential on me, in regards to increasing my ambition to become a commercial lawyer, and in a City law firm. I would highly recommend applying for the A&O First programme.
The trainee mentor was an excellent idea, and it made me feel as though Allen & Overy had an interest in myself as an individual.
The 'speed networking' was very informative in this sense. The solicitors were very honest about their work, however it only made me more eager to pursue the career myself. The work shadowing with our trainee mentors was also a useful experience.
Allen & Overy is known as a 'friendly firm' and I definitely felt that. It was interesting to see the way in which Allen & Overy functioned, and then I was able to compare that with other insight days I have been on at other law firms. The company culture was certainly apparent, which allowed me to understand the company to a greater degree.
The day confirmed my ambition to strive for a career in a law firm such as Allen & Overy. Also, it allowed me to have an insight into a City law firm, compared to regional law firms in which I had previously had work experience. The day opened my eyes to the wider opportunities that City law firms hold.
Everything Else
Very efficient, and highly appreciated.
These were great to experience the company culture to a greater degree and also have an insight into daily life at Allen & Overy.
The networking was a very good, and worthwhile opportunity. By having people from the different departments it allowed me to compare the type of work that they did and to get first hand experiences and opinions, as well as advice.
Allen & Overy came across as, alongside being a successful law firm, a workplace which had a community feel. I was told of the various activities and clubs, and also the volunteering, which employees have the opportunity to get involved in.
It was a great insight day and I would highly recommend it.
