The Role
From the beginning of the placement - the development interns were treated as equals with the full-time employees.
All my colleagues were very eager to act as Mentors and guide us throughout the year. The culture at Microsoft is very much about sharing information and helping others.
There is never a quiet moment at the office - as there is always more to get on with! With that in mind, interns were not 'too busy' - and our managers were very supportive in guiding us on project allocations etc.
The interns are given the same responsibilities as the full time employee's, and therefore we were given a lot of responsibility. Throughout the year, all the interns completed and shipped exciting changes to Microsoft products.
I have developed both my Software Engineering/Computer Science skills as well as interpersonal skills more than I had imagined I would. You are working in teams with some of the most skilled developers in the world, who are more than happy to share their insights and knowledge.
The Company
The London office has a great relaxed atmosphere, everybody is always up for a fun (nerf gun wars and foosball!).
The university staffing team did a great job of helping us throughout the year. From before we even started there were events and a social network set up to help us find housemates. We were continually supported by the staffing team and managers - and there was clear plans laid out for us throughout.

Working from home
I would love to work back at Microsoft, however they do not have any software engineering roles in their graduate MACH scheme - so I am unlikely to return directly after university.
The Culture
There were many intern '101' teams available to join, that gave the opportunity for much extra-curricular activities. As well as this, there is a good social scene - with sports teams and social clubs available.
