The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I was given great responsibility and was treated as an FTE throughout.
I felt valued by my colleagues throughout the internship, I was even asked questions and ran sessions showing the work I had completed and how it can be used to colleagues.
My manager was fantastic from day one. He allowed me to integrate into different teams and dictate what type of projects and work I wanted to take on so I was able to gain the most experience and benefit from my internship.
There were times when I was stuck with not as much as I would like to do but there were also times when I was hit hard with lots of work so it struck a balance quite well.
I was treated like an FTE. This included being given work and responsibilities like an FTE. Towards the end I started to run my own projects and co-ordinate meetings etc.
As I had a chance to integrate with different teams I gained several skills and developed further lots more. This was everything from programming languages to tools, to personal development and social skills.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was amazing, with people socialising in the central areas and also gaming going on during lunch times with the table football and pool table.
It was organised well with clear milestones and events throughout.
I was part of the Personal Development Programme at Microsoft and had regular 1-1 meetings with a mentor. This helped me develop my skills and interests accordingly.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
With the people I have met during my internship and networked with at events I feel that it has helped hugely for future career opportunities with Microsoft.
The Culture
There were always people doing something. As there were different offices you found that each one had different social scenes but these were also integrated.
London is expensive but it is possible to find a place in a nice setting which has good travel links.
It's London. There were so many different places you were able to go and things to do.
There were always extra teams to integrate into if you wanted extra activities. In my office as well there were events such as football and pub and studio socials monthly.
