    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My years placement at Microsoft has been absolutely amazing, It has been the best year of my life - I have learnt to grow personally and professionally and I cannot thank Microsoft enough for this experience. I have been given unbelievable opportunities that without this company and their placement scheme I wouldn't have had the chance to be exposed to.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern at Microsoft, you are treated as an FTE. From the moment I started I was trained to play a significant role within my team and it has helped develop a variety of my skill sets.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has changed three times whilst at Microsoft but I however haven't felt effected by this in a negative way. Every manager has done their up most best to help me fulfil everything that I want to do in my year,

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have a full time role so I am busy 9-5.30 every day. During different times of the year the level of work varies. This means that if we have an event coming up, the work load will be higher. However, if you ever feel that the work is too much or too little your manager is always there to support you.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility, I represented Microsoft on various occasions externally and have also lead different projects and events.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and experience that I have learnt during this year will remain with me for life. A highlight for me was being given the opportunity to travel to Microsoft USA to work in the New York offices. Here, we were given the opportunity to learn about different business areas and this is a transferable skill that I can take forward with me.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Positive, The people all have the same nature. A great quote is that 'Microsoft hires intelligent people who are nice to be around' and I believe this. Everyone is willing to help each other out and everyone wants the best for each other and the company. There are so many people you can turn to if you have a problem or just want a chat. I have never met such a large group of people who get on so well - including the interns.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Amazingly well. The university staffing team at Microsoft are there to organise the entire internship and this is a great asset to the company. They are an amazing support to each intern if they ever need any assistant but are also fabulous at putting on events to make interns feel like one big community.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Every manager I have had has wanted me to learn as much as I possibly could. In addition to this, I was given the opportunity to travel to NYC to broaden my learning further. I will forever be grateful for this experience - I cannot thank the company enough.
