The Role
My work placement was fantastic as I got brilliant first hand experience with a whole lot of responsibility. I learnt a great deal and would not want to work at any other corporate.
It took a while to get the team sorted but when I was settled the team was awesome and really made me feel at home. I wasn't an intern but a part of the team.
My team was always on hand to help me out and support me when anything was getting too tough or too much to handle which was encouraging. When I didn't know how to do something they would happily point me in the right direction or just help me out.
My role was very event orientated and so there were periods where I was extremely busy and other days where I didn't have anything to do. At the start of the internship due to the reorganization of the company at the time it took a while before my role was clearly defined.
I had a great deal of responsibility as I was responsible for organizing a number of events, writing newsletters and other important tasks which were interesting.
I learnt a huge amount during my placement which I'll carry forward into my studies and beyond. I'd never had a proper job before so just the simple things like how the company works as well as learning important things around marketing that I wouldn't get in the classroom at uni.
The Company
Microsoft has a brilliant atmosphere as it allows you to work however you want, its very flexible. As well as free drinks and chill out rooms, the people are really friendly and always happy to help.
There were many intern events organised by Microsoft which acted as a platform for us interns to get together outside of work and help build meaningful friendships which was really handy when you're with these people for 12 months. We all had assigned managers who knew and understood the internship programme which was really handy.
I think just the exposure of being around world leading people in their fields was investment enough. I had a few pieces of training and made use of the in-company training around word/outlook/excel etc which is really great looking ahead.

They're brilliant as you can come back in a wide range of different forms from a graduate to a contractor so this is really encouraging for anyone wanting to come back/apply.
The Culture
It was a really good social scene with something happening most nights and weekends. Especially in London where there's so much to explore.
London is pretty expensive so Microsoft do give you a signing on bonus when you first join to help with paying for Oyster cards and house deposits etc The canteen is pretty cheap and you get used to the high cost of things.
Central London is always going to be great to go out in as there's something for anyone.
There's always something going on and opportunities for you to stretch yourself in a wide range of tasks so yes definitely.
