The Role
My placement was a real learning experience and was a great mixture of my role as well as stretch activities and social activities
During my placement I was treated as any other employee with a real role and responsibility and my colleagues treated me equally and were there to support and guide me
I had weekly 1:1's with my manager, I also had a weekly meeting with a mentor within my team and had the opportunity to be mentored by a member of the senior leadership team
This varied but there was always opportunities to assist with other members of the team or work on additional stretch projects, there was also support for really busy times
Being treated as a full time employee meant I was given lots of responsibility which enbcouraged me to work to the best of my ability as I knew others were counting on me
Although this was not directly related to my degree it has helped me develop soft skills to take back to university, It is also a career I want to persue in the future so it has helped me a great deal.
The Company
the atmosphere was very relaxed, there was always someone to talk to, but there was also space to work independently when needed,
It was set up well as i had structure and time to learn new things i was also then able to take on more responsibility as I became more familiar with the company.
I have had lots of training, I was pushed to learn new skills, completed many of the Microsoft office exams and completed an exam related to my role
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I would definately consider coming back to Microsoft in the future as the companies culture really suited me.
The Culture
As there were lots of interns there was always something happening and being based in London meant it was easy to access lots of different places. My team also went for regular afterwork drinks and group lunch
London is relatively expensive to live but with such a wide variety of things to do, lots of which free it makes it worth it. I lived at home which made it slightly cheaper
London has nightlife to suit everyone and also has all night transport everynight making it really easy to get home
