  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My year at Microsoft has been incredible. I've had amazing opportunities, met some amazing people and developed so many skills.

  • You are treated like any other employee.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • With weekly 1-1s these provide valuable opportunities to check in and have guidance around projects. Collaboration and help is a key part of the culture at Microsoft and everyone is always willing to give you their time.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I've never been bored! Always something to get involved and work on, had a great work life balance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had the opportunities to run projects, manage social channels and coordinate numerous events. The amount of responsibility you get is up to you!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Developed so many skills and dramatically improved my knowledge in so many areas. These will undoubtedly help me in future Job opportunities.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The standout part of Microsoft for me. The culture is incredible, so friendly, encouraging, collaborative and welcoming. Everyone is always willing to give you their time, no matter how high up they are.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very organised and well run, we had structured social events, check in and syncs with the University Staffing Team.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had the opportunity to develop different skills outside our job area. Personal development projects allowed us to develop skills and knowledge in different areas, whilst 101 teams allowed us further opportunities to expand our skills sets. Also had the opportunity to take Microsoft office exams for free.

  • Very appealing, however very hard to get due to lack of marketing grad opportunities.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With 120 interns and 70 being In Reading, this has been great.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is quite expensive and going out is pricey, however the house prices are okay.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading has a range of clubs and bars, there's also the uni which had the SU.

  • Microsoft sport and social events. Football, rugby etc.
