The Role
Microsoft is a fantastic company to do a placement with. From the very first day they give you a brilliant on-boarding, they integrate you into the intern community and as a company they really value their employees.
I have integreated very well into my team and my colleages speak to me as an equal, not just 'an intern'. There are opportunities to meet and work with a variety of people, and everyone is happy to tell you about what they do and support of guide you in any tasks you do no know how to do
Microsoft let you find your own way much more than other organisations, but will provide ample support and guidance if and when you need it - all you have to do is ask!
The second 6 months get really busy, so try and take as many opportunites to do things outside of your job role in the first 6 months, but the company really focus on your work-life balance so it never becomes overwhelming
You can push for as much responsibility as you feel comfortable - every intern can shape their own internship
Microsoft focus on your development more than almost any other organisation that I know of
The Company
My team, whilst being hard-workers, often have morale events/meals and are always very pleasant to speak to
The university recruitment team work incredibly hard to make the programme as great as possible for interns
There is an on-site library, there are opportunities to take exams and there are endless online resources available. Specific sessions are also run on a monthly basis, and annualy there are carrer workshops.
