  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very satisfied.

  • Very welcome and valuable.

  • Less so by my direct manager, however lots of support from colleagues.

  • Very busy. Work came in peaks and troughs of business.

  • A lot within my department. With two part time worker out of 4 at one point, there was a lot to pick up.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Lots of my skills are transferable and will have made me significantly more organised and employable than prior to my placement.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Across the internship, Microsoft is a great place to work. Very friendly and open. Work was serious when needs to be, but much more light hearted than most companies.

  • Very well organised as a program.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Somewhat. I was given the opportunity for Microsoft Office Specialist exams, however other than in-role experience, any other training was difficult to come by (not offered to me).

  • Very - no.1 company I want to return to (role dependent).

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. With a large intern community there are plenty of people to get along with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is not cheap as it is outer London, more expensive than University, but by no means outrageous.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was nightlife. By no comparison anywhere near as good as University, but there were various options.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes - Microsoft offers a lot with external stuff to get involved in as well as I did social stuff with my team fairly often.
