The Role
Challenged not only in my day-to-day job role but given ample of opportunities around the company both internally and externally.
Colleagues are always really kind and willing to help whether that is with work or questions outside of your placement year. Given true responsibilities throughout the year.
I had regular 1:1's with my manager on a weekly basis and also had a quarterly review. Microsoft has a deep focus on giving you feedback throughout your placement and really listens to what you want to get out of your internship.
Kept busy throughout my internship. This wasn't your stereotypical tasks like making coffee (you won't be doing that here!!) but managing my own budgets, events and really making my mark at the company.
In addition to managing events, my own budget and additional roles that required me to lead a team I owned numerous projects throughout my internship. If you want responsibility ask for it and Microsoft tends to let you try and develop.
I am really developed all of my skills at Microsoft. In an educational sense, Microsoft allows you to sit Microsoft Office Specialist examinations but from a personal perspective a lot of the work I did at Microsoft related quite closely to my degree meaning that I could bring in theories/lessons learnt at university into my day-to-day job at Microsoft.
The Company
Great atmosphere, people want to talk and work so it isn't very corporate at all.
There are key dates given to all interns that you can look forward to such as off-sites as an intern community.
Microsoft invests heavily in you as an employee. I have learnt so much throughout my placement year and would love to return!
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Travel loan
All interns are offered to return on the MACH scheme but you also have the option to apply to Microsoft Partners across the UK
The Culture
Fantastic intern community, with regular nights out and a real sense of a community.
I lived in Reading and rent/bills tended to equal £400 per month. Cost of living is fine as is socializing due to Reading train station being able to get you to London/other popular locations quickly and cheaply.
Great nightlife in Reading, especially when out with interns!
Lots of social events and sports activities that you can join in with.
