    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed all the different opportunities throughout my year at Microsoft and there has been excellent support from both the on boarding team at the start and from my team and surrounding teams throughout the year.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Every individual is treated as a full time employee, including as an intern which is great because being treated as equal means you have get given real responsibilities.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support by my team has been great throughout the year, with a real focus on personal development from the start and manager reviews throughout the year. I have had a weekly 1:1 with both my managers which has really helped delegate my tasks for the upcoming week.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the Advertising and Online division, it has been very up and down - some weeks are really busy with managing and planning events, whereas others are more quiet. This balance is great as I could focus on personal development in the quieter weeks.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the beginning, I was just learning and being a part of projects but after a few months, I was owning major projects, having to plan events, budgets, logistics and report all this back to management teams.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that I have learnt this year will help massively going back to university and beyond into my future career. I have developed key skills in communications, leadership, teamwork and presenting.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere has been great with a real buzz working with other teams closely. Since I am in a global team, I talk to most of my team over the phone so it's nice to have face to face meetings and atmosphere near my team.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The program has been really well organised, with specific on boarding programs, training and welcome days. The HR team really do support you throughout the year to ensure you are happy in the workplace and ensure your role is suited to you.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a personal development plan set out at the beginning of the year and my managers reviewed this with me throughout the year to make sure I was developing the skills that I wanted to. They encourage you to get involved in extra curricular activities, such as the stretch projects outside of your normal role to help expand your skills.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Having done the placement year, there are possibilities of returning as a Graduate with the knowledge and expertise gained over the year.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • In London, the intern community is fantastic - we all socialise together both after work and at the weekends. London has so many different things to see and do so it has been great to live and experience the city for the year! There are also team socials which are great too!

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It has been expensive living in London but your salary reflects this. Travel is expensive so I would advise living more centrally and having higher rent, than travelling from far away. Living with interns is also highly recommended!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • So many opportunities including sports teams, socialising with the intern community, enjoying London!
