The Role
Really great experience, didn't expect that i'll get to do so many things in a year!
My colleagues were great, and very knowledgeable about their area of expertise. A lot of the people I worked with had PhDs in machine learning, being able to learn from them was incredible.
Lots of opportunities to connect with various managers. I had weekly 1:1s with my manager and my senior manager
I was quite busy generally, but I was enjoying the work so I didn't mind.
This is probably the best thing about my placement , I worked on Cortana for Windows 10 and Cortana for Microsoft Edge, even before they were announced to the public. Firstly, it was exciting, and quite surprising to be able to work on products which were confidential. Secondly, these products are used by millions by customers, so being able to shape the product was amazing!
My time management, project management and communication skills have improved a lot, as I had to work across teams on tight deadlines
The Company
Very friendly, quite relaxed. I worked in an engineering team, there was no dress code
University staff team did a great job organizing our year, we had extracurricular teams we could join, we had quarterly events
Our team had weekly brownbags on various engineering topics, and the presentations were really interesting, We also had a lot of external speakers
Subsidised Canteen

Looking forward to graduate opportunities here
The Culture
