The Role
I have loved my year at Microsoft, I have gotten to experience so many different things and learnt so much more than University can teach you.
I feel I am and have been an integral part of the team operations given the nature of an internship; it is more than that.
I was given training at the beginning on all of the software and sources we use. I had weekly connects with my manager and monthly's with my line manager.
Busy enough to have work but not to skip lunch on a regular occasion.
I got to have a day-to-day schedule as well as stuff like running my own research project in Paris for the French market. I got to help with the social media info graphics for Cannes Festival. There are many more things like going out to Universities and running presentations to attract future for FY16.
Learning how to interpret data and analyse thoughtful insights as a result on a variety of software's and sources is invaluable. Learning the key nuances between different source and their strengths and weaknesses is something that can only come with practise.
The Company
Very relaxed but hard working. Work hard, plat hard mentality. Very relaxing in the office, good views of London in a central area with break rooms with pool tables and plants. Free drinks and a cheap canteen are also a big plus
With any business, change is inevitable and unfortunately my role went through a change transition where we were unsure of what we would get to do. But having said that it wasn't long before our roles and team were again solidified and back to the daily work flow.
I took several training courses to operate the software we use on a daily basis, you can also take free Microsoft office exams in our Reading HQ. I undertook my own training schedule that I sought out on leadership with British University & Colleges Sports (BUCS) and my team were more than happy to let me go ahead and do that.

The graduate scheme is very enticing with many opportunities stemming off of that program. The starting salary is incredibly well styled.
The Culture
Amazing London social scene where every week could be different. Not even necessarily going out to clubs and drinks, comedy and other events are fruitful around the office with my fellow interns. We had Christmas and leaving lunches in my team as well as whenever our Director was over from NYC in very nice restaurants in London for free!
Living in London is expensive, I chose to stay on my campus (Surrey) and commute in which in essence cost about the same as living in London. I.e. the money I saved on rent and living was lost on travel.
Probably the best you can feasibly get. In central London there is never not a club or event going on regardless of the day! With pubs, bars and clubs plentiful you will never not find something good to do. As well as the bigger famous ones like Ministry of Sound or Piccadilly Institute.
You can take 3 volunteer days to get out into the community throughout the year as well as project teams like University recruitment trips! Visiting agencies & clients also comes as part of the job,
