    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Easily one of the best years of my life, my experiences this year will always stick with me. Hearing friends from Uni talk about their placement, Microsoft really excel themselves with this programme.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I know that what I brought to the table was valued and meaningful to my team, you're treated like a full time employee from the get-go, and never just 'the intern'. With this came a decent amount of responsibility, which is paramount for development and growth.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is never a point where you feel like you are on your own, Microsoft have all aspects of work-life covered - I felt supported and cared for every step of the way.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was never a point where I was twiddling my thumbs, but I never ended up pulling my hair out with stress. Microsoft perfectly balanced this and gave me enough room to grow and develop without making me feel like I was on my own.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A decent amount! I never expected to be allowed to be completely autonomous, or worry about whether or not my opinion will be listened to - again, we were treated like FTE's from the outset. We always had guidance, but given enough room to work out problems for ourselves and teach ourselves.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It's easy to hide behind theory and grades, but to have your skills tested in the real world is invaluable. I know that this year has been the most important aspect of my degree scheme, what I've learned this year has been priceless and really cemented my passion and where I want to take my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I completely felt like I could act like myself, not having to put on a corporate front and leave my actual-self at the entrance to the office. It was great fun to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who work incredibly hard, but don't take themselves too seriously.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was clearly always a game plan and a well structured scheme throughout the process, I never felt lost or on my own, there was always clear advice on what to do and when.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Whether it was technical, soft skills, or general best-practice/housekeeping work, I was supported and invested in throughout the scheme. The skills I've gained are priceless.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I was given an offer, I wouldn't double-take. It's a complete no-brainer, this year has been incredible - I'd do anything to come back to Microsoft.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I can 100% say that I know all of the 124 students on a personal level, all of which I can happily call my friends. There are people that I'm going to miss when the placement comes to an end, it hasn't really sunk in that I'll wake up one day and not see all of the amazing people I've met this year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London, no way to sugar-coat it. But we were paid just enough to be able to live happily, without fear of anything financially.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Unreal, and I've lived in Manchester the majority of my life (no easy thing to beat). I can't wait to graduate and come straight back to London

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Everything from intern-lead teams to sports clubs, the possibilities were endless.
