The Role
I learned things ranging from how to code to how to be an engineer here, been treated like a full time employee and my opinions were always listened to and taken into account.
I was always asked what I think and my opinions were always valued and my feedback important.
I had both a line manager and a mentor that were both very interested and eager to help me improve and give feedback that ended up having a great impact on my career.
Depending on the stage of the project were in on the different projects I was a part of, there were crazy days but also more relaxed days. It also depended on how much responsibility I picked up.
Depending on what stage a project was when I joined it, I got more or less responsibility and ownership. This could have been improved by the manager exerting more pressure on the project leads, but was generally good.
The year I've spent here will have a direct impact on the way I approach my final year project, when I start, how I plan it and the standard to which I hold my own work from now on. The year of experience has a great effect on my employability and my skills as a graduate.
The Company
The office had a great energy, people were always communicating, showing each other their work and generally being very transparent.
The internship was quite organised, Microsoft has a good scheme where it tries to handle each internship stream separately. More effort could be put into the technical (programming) and gaming (studios) streams, but generally it was good.
We didn't have much official training, but the personal development came from being involved in the projects and part of the team.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing.
The Culture
We had monthly socials and company parties.
London is very expensive - around 1000 a month.
