The Role
I had an exceptional year! I have learnt more in this one year than in my entire time in education. I would really recommend a placement to everyone.
At no point was I labelled as the 'intern'. I had a full role and people were dependent on the work I did.
I never felt in the dark. I had multiple mentors from across the business and a university staffing team always on hand to support me and everyone else.
It varied, as I was in a sales role, however if I needed more work I could ask for it and say no when I had too much.
I was given my own accounts and allowed to visit customers on my own by the end of the placement. I believe I was given as much responsibility as I could handle at each point in the year.
By doing a placement, I will be leaps ahead of someone that hasn't. it has really set me up for the future. Again, I would really recommend doing a placement.
The Company
Very positive, it is a huge campus so there is plenty of people around.
We had meeting points throughout the year that were scheduled in advanced. Although my role was not a set roles as it was completely dependent on customers needs, for other interns it seemed very structured.
We had a personal development programme open to everyone which gave you a 1:1 mentor and a senior leadership team mentor on a 1:many basis. I also had multiple mentors in my business group set up by my manager.

Very. I would love to come back to Microsoft. The graduate scheme and contract roles seem very appealing.
The Culture
Yes, there was about 80 of us in Reading, so plenty of people to go out with for drinks after work! Reading itself isn't the most 'clubby' town, but I think we made the most of it.
More expensive than where I am at university, but cheaper than London!
We made the best of it! I don't think I had a bad night out at any point.
Yes, so close to London so there was plenty to do!
