The Role
I had the most amazing year at Microsoft and made some real impact. At Microsoft you are not just an intern, you are treated like a full time employee, receiving all sort of benefits and discounts. I have been traveling to New York, Germany and France during my internship to visit other offices and Microsoft is just like one big family - you are welcome anywhere. There are endless opportunities within Microsoft and you can really make out of your year what you want to get out of it. Microsoft offers great support and a huge network to get involved in.
I am fully part of my team and have travelled with my manager to meet some of my work colleagues that sit in other offices abroad. I deal with a lot of people that sit in Dubai, Germany, Italy and the US and always feel very welcome and well integrated within my global team. It feels like a community and you are highly valued as an individual - not just seen as an intern, but a valuable member of the team.
You have regular 1:1s with your manager and you have a huge team of support within HR and your wider team to help you with any sort of problem. The whole year is well structured and guided, however, you also get given a lot of autonomy to express yourself and make the most out of your year.
My work load varies with the time of the year so I had very busy and more quite tines, but there is always enough to get involved in and my year literally flew by as I experienced so many different things. All in all, you can manage your workload.
I was given huge responsibility, working with the Head of UK and Finance Director. My team invested several thousand pounds into one of my ideas, so you are actually working on real life projects having a real impact. As my manager is a director I was working on a high level and influenced on many different levels,
I learned so much this year and feel ready to face the real world. You are able to attend so many training courses, lectures, examinations etc.. you can learn pretty much anything and the free access to this amount of technology enables you to improve your skills to the fullest.
The Company
It was always very lively and casual - great fun! 10 out of 10
Your year is fully structured, however, you are impacted by reorganisations within teams, which can sometimes be confusing. But HR will always be great support and the year is overall well structured and good guidance is provided.
Unlimited opportunities - workshops, MOS exams etc.
