The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Microsoft. From the very first day until the very end!
I felt integrated into the team from day one. You are not treated as an intern here, you are a valued and treated like a full time employee.
I had an excellent onboarding with all the support I needed from my manager. Throughout the year, this continued and I always felt comfortable reaching out for help when I needed it.
Relatively busy on most days but this is what I enjoyed.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I ever thought Microsoft would trust me with. I was able to make very key decisions and given ownership of specific projects. I really felt like I was running the show!! It was brilliant.
I will hope to carry the skills I have developed this year in my degree and in future employment. It has changed the way I interact with people, the way I present myself, the way I think about situations and has really prepared me for professional life.
The Company
The culture is one of the highlights. Everyone is very friendly, approachable and the culture is great. It is a relaxed environment where people are still very dedicated and hard working. Perfect balance between work and social life - I always enjoyed coming in.
The university staffing team invest a lot of time and energy into the overall experience. They ensure that we are continually supported from their side as well as ensuring we are receiving the training and help from our managers. Really good programme that I couldn't recommend enough.
Microsoft invest a lot in your future development. There are plenty of opportunities to meet with senior leaders and learn about various areas of the business. Training opportunities are endless and people are always willing to speak/help with regards to professional development.

Very! There are many future opportunities for interns to come back into the business. I would love to come back as a full time employee/graduate.
The Culture
The intern community has really been a highlight of the year. We are encouraged to socialise and get to know each other. Working with each other on projects outside of our day to day roles really helped boost our socialising. We go out together most Friday nights and live together too!
It was relatively okay - not as expensive as London but standard prices.
Good night life, close to the university so could also find some good 'student' places.
Endless opportunities to get involved in 101 projects and various other activities.
