The Role
Absolutely loved my year at Microsoft! Wouldn't change anything if I were given the opportunity to do it again. I was onboarded at a pace which was comfortable for me and before I knew it I was a key part of my team, owning my own projects and being able to give my own input!
I was a valued member of a European remote team, I was given my own projects to run from the UK and was trusted in managing it myself. I had catch ups with my manager which he gave me great advice but also let me do my work in my own way.
Continuously, my direct manager and I were always connected in some way, even though he was based in Norway. We also had weekly calls with my managers manager and were also supported by our University Staffing Team if anything was ever troubling me. No one was ever too busy to support me, I could put meetings in with mentors and placement leads whenever and they were happy to help.
Sometimes too busy, but that is exactly what I wanted out of my placement, I wanted to get the most out of my year so having a substantial amount of work, worked for me!
I had projects which I completely owned. As my team were based all over Europe, I lead our team projects from the UK which was amazing. I also got involved with projects aside from my job such as the Be Your Future Microsoft Blog. In this I was the content lead which meant I owned and managed what content went on to the Blog
