The Role
The whole year was full of opportunities and challenges. My main goal was to get to know corporate world/ethics better as well as try myself in different areas. Coming from a Business degree keeps it fairly flexible, so I was really happy that I was given a chance to try myself in Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance and even Video Production.
A great of team spirit in the office. During my induction week everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I could literally reach out to anyone (even in a different team/department) and arrange a short coffee catch up to share experiences and knowledge.
My manager was sitting right next to me - so I could talk to him any moment I need an advice. Also got a 1:1 Mentor allocated and had fortnightly meeting with her to help me develop both Personal and Professional skills.
I was given more responsibilities during my year with a full replacement of a full time position, so I guess my case won't be a blue print. However, I would say it all depends on the team as some of the business groups are very seasonal and you might be too busy/free occasionally. Others are more balanced. In my case, I believe, I have managed to improve my time skills and deliver well on 2 roles.
Some of the tasks that I was responsible did have an affect on the whole department and the Leadership Team, so I think the responsibility was in a good level.
Definitely 10/10 here. I cannot compare any of my school/university learnings to what I have gained during my year at Microsoft.
