The Role
I enjoyed it. I worked with great people. There was some times when I felt I was being left out of the team and wasn't reieving enough help as I needed. However, overall it was a great experience. I was one of Enterprises' first set of interns so there were bound to be things that the company could work on. I have been asked by HR what I didn't enjoy etc, and I am sure they will take these points on board.
I did feel valued by colleagues the majority of the time I worked here. I was given the same benefits and treatment as a regular employee and often scheduled meetings which I lead.
There needed to be slightly more support and guidance. Some bi-weekly meetings with my manager was missed, however my manager was always there if I had anything urgent. Colleagues were near by as well if I needed any help with my work.
There were times that I was bored, whilst waiting for help from colleagues, however the office is fairly relaxed and allows you to browse the internet a little bit, as long as you don't take the mick.
I was given lots of responsibility. I had my own project all to myself which I started from the very beginning.
I will most definitely be taking skills I can use to my advantage in the final year at university and any future employment.
The Company
The office was a sociable and relaxed environment. They are also clean, modern and well looked after.
It wasn't the best organized placement, but this was expected as I was the first intern in my role. It took a few months for me to get set up in a project and before that I wasn't doing much. However, since I have started there have been new interns in the department and I have seen them being put into work right away. so they have definitely learnt from their errors.
There were many IT training webinars that I was invited to by my manager and attended. These are during working hours and free to attend as long as your schedule is free. You are very independent with your day schedule, as long as you get your work done.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I have not spoken with my manager about any possible employment prospects within Enterprise. However, through my final year I will be working part time from home with a different department and I think I could be welcomed back into the IT department once I've graduated.
The Culture
Yes there were many team lunches and department events. It is an open office and everyone is sociable.
I never lived in Egham as I commuted from London, but it's the standard prices. There are shops on the high street (not a huge high street) for lunch; Tesco, subway, Greggs and more.
Zero night life! Quite shocking considering Royal Holloway University is just down the road!
Lots of charity day events to get involved in!
