The Role
I enjoyed working at Virgin Media, it is a fun company to work for and the staff are well looked after.
I worked in a small team where most people worked in different cities and we rarely all met up so it was hard to develop proper relationships with these people. However everyone was friendly and there was always the feeling of being able to approach people if you needed help.
Support was always available when needed and most people were willing to help you regardless of if they worked closely with you or not.
This varied depening on what time of the month it was, I worked on invoicing and attrition mainly which involves work mostly around the start and end of the month meaning the middle of the month could sometimes be very quiet.
My responsibilities grew the longer I was in VM but there was definitely a feelig of having lots of responsibilities towards the end of the placement where I was doing a lot of work completely by myself and people would come and ask me questions and I was sometimes the only person who could help them.
I have definitely developed my communication skills and my confidence which I think is very important for any Business student. I've also improved my IT skills and can now use more software than I could before.
The Company
Working in a contact centre gave a very lighthearted and fun atmosphere to work in as there were always fun things organised and events on to motivate the agents on the phone and this often filtered through to other departments too like the area where I worked.
My internship was initially well organised but due to changes within the department plans changed and I don't think I got to do as much as I was initially meant to but I understand this is what happens in real businesses.
I did a lot of the online courses which were free and provided by VM, these were mostly based around personal development as this is what I wanted to develop the most over my placement year.

Working from home
The employment aspects are very good within VM as there is a graduate scheme which looks great.
The Culture
There was some communication between interns but as I was the only intern in Scotland and the rest in England this made it difficult to have much of a social life with them outside of work.
I live fairly closely to the Bellshill office which made working here fairly cheap as I only really had to pay for petrol for my car as parking was also free.
I live in Glasgow and Bellshill is just outside of Glasgow which means it's fairly close to the big city with good nightlife.
There were lots of activities outside of work offered through internal communications, often these were discounted for the staff too which was very good.
